Navigating the transition from childhood to adulthood is full of challenges.

Some of these challenges have been around forever - things like developing a sense of independence, coping with peer pressure, and balancing family life with social exploration. While others are brand new and leave both teens and parents reeling as to how to respond.

Today’s teens are growing up to a world that is constantly changing. They are bombarded with social media comparisons, overstimulation, and hyper-exposure to negative world events through 24 hour news cycles. They are doing their best to cope with big problems, but the landscape is constantly changing and they haven’t been given a road map navigate it.

Teenagers face many of the same struggles adults face, but without having yet developed the wisdom and emotional skills that come with accumulated life experience contributing to depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, and low self-esteem.

The human brain is continuing to develop until about 26 years of age. We can’t expect adolescents to automatically know how to regulate their emotions or deal with conflict when their brains are still growing so quickly. This is where therapy can help.

As Licensed Clinical Psychologist I obtained specializations in Child and Pediatric Psychology. I dedicated my coursework and research to understanding the developing brain and have spent most of my career focusing on working with adolescents and young adults - understanding their challenges and working with them to learn new skills and find solutions.

I learned early on that teenagers get the most out of therapy when they want to be there, not when they are forced. This is why I do my best to make my practice warm and welcoming to adolescents. My primary objective is providing a comfortable and safe space where we develop mutual trust for one another.

Teenagers are unique. They deserve a therapist that specializes, understands, and is passionate about working with them.

Therapy for LGBTQ Adolescents

I am LGBTQ affirming and have specialized experience in supporting LGBTQ adolescents and their families. I provide teenagers and young adults a safe space to explore their identity and navigate the coming out process. I am also here to help parents and caregivers who want to understand and support their LGBTQ youth, but may not know how. I provide parents a safe space to discuss worries, fears, and learn how to better communicate with and support their child.
